Reclaiming Operation Vs Machine Operator

In the previous article (titled ‘Reclaim Mode Drawing and Case Study on YouTube Video’), a question has been asked along with a photograph. For your convenience the same is mentioned below:
Although it is possible for the operator to reclaim (in manual mode) the material from the stockyard as shown in the below photo, IT IS NOT ALLOWED to do so. ‘WHY IT IS NOT ALLOWED’?

It has been explained in the previous article that the reclaim operation has to be started only from the EDGE of the stockpile. Whereas in the above photo, the reclaim operation has been started from the mid of the stockpile by the operator. That’s why instead of a CONCAVE CURVE, we see a CONVEX CURVE on the stockpile.

For more clarity refer the below 3D models.
1.   Stockpile
2. Forward cut reclaiming operation (GENERAL PRACTICE) in which the reclaiming operation started from the edge of the stockpile.
3. Reverse/Middle cut reclaiming operation (NOT ALLOWED) in which the reclaiming operation started from the mid of the stockpile. The operator has started the reclaiming operation from the mid of the stockpile by lowering the boom to the stockpile.

This (reverse/middle cut) reclaiming operation is NOT ALLOWED since,
1.   The stockpile to be reclaimed has to be in front of the operator’s eye sight and not at the bottom of the operator cabin. In this case the stockpile is at the bottom hence the operator shall not get proper view of the stockpile.
2. While lowering the boom for reclaiming the next lower bench, there is a chance for the boom to collide with the top of the stockpile. This may disturb the stability of the machine and there are chances that the machine may derail.
3. Since the reclaiming operation has been started from the mid of the stockpile, in case of any failure in the machine it is impossible to take the maintenance crane near the machine since the machine is at the mid of the stockpile and both the sides are covered with the stacked material. Hence to create an approach to the machine, stockpile at one side to be cleared with the help of dozer or pay unloader which is a tedious operation.

TO CONCLUDE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO EDUCATE THE MACHINE OPERATORS REGULARLY ABOUT THE OPERATION OF THE MACHINE AND THE IMPACT IN CASE OF ANY FAILURE IN THE MACHINE.
